In my early twenties I was a Security Guard at the University Club Tower on Riverside Drive in Tulsa. I had a key to every room, every office, and every closet in the whole place.
One evening while patrolling offices on the 31st floor, I noticed a single glass door in a small break room used to gain access to the air conditioning units that were mounted outside on a 4 foot wide ledge.
In my youthful brilliance I decided it would be a neat idea to go outside and sit on that ledge and smoke a cigarette.
This was not what one would consider as being a quality decision.
I apparently neglected to consider that I only weighed about 110 pounds at the time, and that was if you counted my gun, holster, boots and my nightstick.
I found the key and unlocked the clear glass door with one hand, resting my other hand on the slim aluminum bar in the center of the door. My lightning fast almost an adult and I know everything mind had also failed to consider that at 31 floors up in the air, when the wind catches an open door and jerks it fully open, whatever is hanging onto it is also going to be going out the door with it!
Yes, I was blowing like a flag in the breeze! Dangling over the ledge making those "help me" "please God help me" "I promise I’ll never do it again" help me noises that we’ve all made (I said that we’ve all made) and all the time wondering how I would ever be able to get back inside.
To this day I still don’t know.... but, Thank You Lord!
It's enough to be thankful for what God has done for you that you know about and are aware of, without even considering all that He has spared you from that you didn't even know about!
Stop and think on that one for a while.
